Find your tax number

Anyone with a tax obligation in France has a tax identification number (NIF). This identifier is automatically provided when the person is registered in the Public Treasury database. It is composed of 13 digits and always starts with 0,1,2, or 3. The tax number is unique, reliable, and fixed forever. It is also sometimes called an SPI number. For businesses, the equivalent of the NIF is the 9-digit SIREN number, also issued by the tax authorities at the time of business registration. Here’s how to find your tax number.

What is a tax number?

This number helps the tax authorities allocate all tax payments to the correct taxpayer. For this reason, it must be specified for all tax-relevant transactions and documents, such as tax declarations or invoices. This makes it easier for the tax authorities to check whether you have paid all taxes correctly or whether there has been a loss of income.
